Overzicht

During this workshop the participants are going to build a full mobile business application in .NET. You get 5 days of practice in Application Development for Mobile Devices on the SAP (Sybase) Unwired Platform.

You will be building a Mobile sales application for a virtual company. It will enable its mobile sales force to obtain information about their customers and products as well as place orders while on a customer call. This workshop is of interest for experienced Application Developers who develop robust Mobile Applications on proven technology and want to gain more expertise.

Benodigde kennis

Participants of this course must have:

  • Knowledge of the SUP environment
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented and mobile device development terms and concepts
  • Medior level SQL programming
  • Basic level of programming

Doel

After completing this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe common scenarios in a mobile enterprise solution,
  • Design mobile device applications that account for application architecture, client application requirements, and performance,
  • Describe the role of the .NET Compact Framework and Smart Device Extensions in the development of mobile device applications,
  • Identify key differences between the .NET Compact Framework and the full .NET Framework,
  • Identify the server and client tools that are required in a mobile application development environment,
  • Develop mobile applications that use Windows Forms events,
  • Create user interfaces for mobile device applications that incorporate appropriate design characteristics,
  • Create forms for mobile device applications that incorporate appropriate navigation and user input techniques,
  • Use inheritance to develop custom controls,
  • Use exception handling,
  • Use DataSets to manipulate data in a disconnected scenario,
  • Populate DataSets from data sources such as XML files and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition (SQL Server CE) databases,
  • Persist DataSet data as an XML file,
  • Bind a DataSet to a DataGrid on a Windows Form,
  • Work with the XmlDocument class to manipulate XML data,
  • Access, change, and update a local SQL Server CE data store,
  • Use the SUP 1.5.5 generated API.
Furthermore you will have gained a better understanding of commonly used methods, manipulating device data and fine tuned synchronization strategies.

Beschrijving

In the first two days you get an initiation into Visual Studio CF 3.5. This consists of a short introduction to Mobile Device Application Development and lessons in:

  • Platform, Tools, and Technologies
  • Application Design Considerations
  • Overview of the .NET Compact Framework
Furthermore you go to work with the User Interface and get lessons in general User Interface considerations, designing User Interfaces, user input and customizing controls. And you get to work with local data en learn to use XML and SQL Server CE.

In the following three days you will be building a Mobile sales application for a virtual company. The app must enable the sales force to obtain information about their customers and products as well as place orders while on customer call. You will learn about development strategy and to develop Mobile Business Objects using the Unwired Workspace. You develop the User Interface in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio (Professional Edition). Finally you end this workshop with testing your application on windows mobile 6 professional emulator.
