This course is intended for value-added providers/resellers, service providers, system integrators, technology consultants and in-house technology staff that serve businesses in the small and medium business (SMB) space. Attendees are expected to have at least three years of experience managing and monitoring a Microsoft Windows-based network.

Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience the following technologies: o Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 o Microsoft Forefront for Exchange o Microsoft ISA Server 2004 or later o Windows Server 2003 or later, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP OR o Network addressing o Active Directory Domain Services o E-mail o E-mail antivirus and anti-spam software In addition students who attend this training should have technical knowledge equivalent to the following courses: o Course 6430: Managing and Maintaining Windows Server 2008 Servers o Course 6420: Fundamentals of a Windows Sever 2008 Network Infrastructure and Application Platform o Course 5115: Installing and Configuring the Windows Vista Operating System

Module 1: Introduction to Windows Essential Business Server 2008 This module introduces Essential Business Server and its placement in the Windows server family. Students learn about various important Essential Business Server features within the server management console, when to use the console and when to use native tools. Students will also learn about the hardware requirements, supported network topologies and the underlying architecture of EBS. o Lesson 1: Windows EBS 2008 Product Overview o Lesson 2: Windows EBS Hardware and Network Requirements o Lesson 3: Integrated Technologies and Architecture o Lesson 4: Windows EBS 2008 Administration and Management Module 2: Plan and Design a Technology Solution for Midsized Businesses This module discusses how to assess business needs and translate those needs into a technology plan. Students learn to analyze an existing network, and design a new network topology based on criteria discovered during both business and technical assessments. o Lesson 1: Conducting a Business Assessment o Lesson 2: Conducting a Technical Assessment o Lesson 3: Hardware for a Windows EBS Environment Module 3: Preparing an Existing Network for a Windows Essential Business Server Installation This module discusses EBS networking methodology and concepts, what tools are available to inventory an existing network, which EBS tools must be used, and how to manage network infrastructure issues. o Lesson 1: Networking Basics o Lesson 2: Taking a Network Inventory o Lesson 3: Building the Windows EBS 2008 Network Module 4: Installing Windows Essential Business Server 2008 This module covers the actual installation of Windows Essential Business Server 2008, with lessons covering each of the three core servers. This module will also discuss troubleshooting techniques for recovering from installation errors. o Lesson 1: Starting Windows EBS Installation o Lesson 2: Installing the Management Server o Lesson 3: Installing the Security Server o Lesson 4: Installing the Messaging Server o Lesson 5: Troubleshooting Installation Module 5: Migrating to Windows Essential Business Server 2008 In this module, you will learn about using the Guided Configuration and Migration Task (GCMT) list to assist in migrating from Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Windows EBS 2008. o Lesson 1: Migrate from Windows Small Business Server o Lesson 2: Migrating Infrastructure Services and Roles o Lesson 3: Migrating Microsoft Exchange Server o Lesson 4: Migrating the Firewall o Lesson 5: Migrating Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) o Lesson 6: Decommissioning Servers Module 6: Managing a Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Environment In this module you will learn how to manage the most common administrative tasks using the Windows Essential Business Server Console, the central interface that groups related functions in order to manage the Windows EBS environment. o Lesson 1: Managing System Health and Security o Lesson 2: Managing Servers and Computers o Lesson 3: User and Group Account Management o Lesson 4: Native Windows EBS Administration Tools o Lesson 5: Configuring Windows EBS Licensing Module 7: Configure and Manage Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 This module explains how to perform specific administrative tasks such as configuring external e-mail and configuring a database on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, using the Windows EBS administration console, and standard Exchange Management Tools. o Lesson 1: Managing Mailbox Size Quotas o Lesson 2: Managing External E-mail Domains o Lesson 3: Design Considerations for Database and Log File Locations o Lesson 4: Troubleshooting and Optimizing Exchange Server 2007 Module 8: Configure and Manage Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007 This module covers administrative tasks that can be performed using Microsoft System Center Essentials (SCE), such as configuring SCE, handling issues discovered by SCE and managing patch management in Windows EBS using the SCE 2007 built-in Windows Server Update Service (WSUS). o Lesson 1: Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007in Windows Essential Business Server o Lesson 2: Patch Management with SCE 2007 o Lesson 3: Monitoring Performance with SCE 2007 o Lesson 4: Managing Applications with SCE 2007 Module 9: Configure Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange (FSE) Server In this module students will learn to configure and manage Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange (FSE) Server on the Windows EBS Messaging and Security Server. o Lesson 1: Managing FSE Server Services o Lesson 2: Configuring Malware Protection o Lesson 3: Attachment Filtering Using FSE Server Module 10: Configuring Remote Access to Windows Essential Business Server In this module students learn to administer remote connectivity and access the Windows Essential Business Server environment using Remote Web workplace, Outlook Anywhere, VPN, Outlook Web Access, and mobile devices. o Lesson 1: Configuring VPN Connections o Lesson 2: Configuring Certificates o Lesson 3: Configuring Remote Web Workplace o Lesson 4: Configuring Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access (OWA) o Lesson 5: Configuring Microsoft Office Outlook Anywhere o Lesson 6: Configuring Exchange ActiveSync Connections to Windows Essential Business Server o Lesson 7: Configuring Terminal Services Gateway Module 11: Windows Essential Business Server 2008 Premium This module covers Windows EBS Premium and deals with when to add a fourth server to extend the Windows Essential Business Server 2008 network. Note: This module covers the installation options and procedures for the fourth server but does not have a lab for the actual installation. The fourth server is only included with the Premium Edition of Windows EBS 2008. o Lesson 1: Installing the Fourth Server o Lesson 2: Installing SQL Server 2008 Standard o Lesson 3: Using the Fourth Server for Virtualization Module 12: Backup and Restore In this module you will learn how to back up and restore a Windows EBS environment and Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and how to replace a server for Windows Essential Business Server. o Lesson 1: Disaster Recovery Planning o Lesson 2: Backing Up and Restoring Windows EBS o Lesson 3: Backing Up Microsoft WSS 3.0 o Lesson 4: Protecting Windows EBS with DPM 2007 o Lesson 5: Replacing a Windows EBS Server
